Is this warranty coverage also for the Pontiac Vibes? They share the same Toyota engine and the same oil consumption issue.

No warranty and the fix would be about the same, new pistons and rings.So then I take it that a similar warranty isn't it there for the Corolla?
If not is there known fixes that aren't going to cost thousands?
Yes, if upon tear-down we find that additional items are needed like a short block or head, we can get it authorized and added to the repair.We just got my wife's Scion back yesterday(after a year long wait) from getting the pistions done.What is strange is that they also installed a new crankshaft,cylinder head ,camshafts and all of the bearings,etc. All of this was done at no cost to us and they ever called to let us know what was being done. They said that it would have cost us over $5000 to have everything done to it that they did.I am confused as to why they would go through all of the extra trouble and expense of doing this but i am not complaining,lol.
I don't know what would be the cause for this but you should not wait. Take it back in as soon as you can and have them find out what the cause is. Please mention that the oil level was 1 qt low and it should be documented on the receipt you get from the Dealer. I am sorry to hear that this happened.Now the bad part is when my wife got home she said it was running rough.I went out and cranked it up and indeed it is.I checked the oil and it was a quart low!!I can't believe they would do all of this and let it leave the shop low on oil!!I added oil and it still runs rough and it has a hunting idle (up and down slightly).I guess i will give it a couple of days and see if this clears up.If not i will take it back.

Other than contact Toyota Directly, no. The Dealer cannot help any further without Toyota corporate giving authorization for repair.I am writing this due to the excessive use of oil needed to run my 2007 RAV4, it had 96,000 miles. I had a test ran on it in July 2016 but the Toyota dealer said it did not meet the criteria to get the vehicle repaired. I just got off the phone with my local Toyota Service Department and they informed me there is nothing they could due because Toyota has closed the window to address their issue on my vehicle. DO I have any options?
If the oil consumption returns within a years time frame (or shorter) the repair should again be covered by Toyota under the warranty repair guidelines (1 year/unlimited mileage). You should tell these two friends of yours to take their cars back to the Dealer for repair. They may need a new short block.The fix is bogus. If you simply replace the pistons and other associated parts with this extended warranty you will start to see your oil light go on again within a year. It's not a fix, it's a bandaid. What Toyota should have done is rebuild the entire engine. You DO NOT put new parts in an old engine and consider it fixed! I know two people who are now putting oil in their car every 1200 miles AFTER the fix!
I just wanted to update you that Toyota revised its warranty policy for the ZE7 to clarify that if the vehicle failed the oil consumption test before the primary coverage ended (and not covered by the secondary coverage) then the vehicle still qualifies to be repaired. Please contact your Dealer and have them review the policy POL14-12 (updated 1-12-17)The same thing happened to me. I am beyond the primary and secondary warranty dates. But the service advisor repeatedly told me as long as my car was enrolled in the program by Oct 31st, it wouldnt be a problem. WRONG! work had to be completed by OCT 31st. When I returned my car within the mileage requirements, they refused it and wouldnt take responsibility for giving me the wrong information and blamed it on Headquarters for not giving them the right info. So now I am stuck in the middle. Something needs to be done. This should have been a recall with so many cars affected and not a warranty enhancement. It is a safety problem caused by a defective engine and Toyota should be held responsible.
Here's my experience with this:
When I was notified of this (I'm not sure if I got it in the mail or a tech just told me when I had our Rav4 in the shop for another recall) I was under the impression it was a recall, so I had some time to accomplish it. I even took it in once and they put the tape on it and told me to bring it back before ~1300 miles, I'm not sure actually, but it was in the fall of 2015. I then was ordered on a temporary duty that took me above the 1300 miles and away from the dealer for a few months. It's OK, they told me, you can just bring it in again and start over.
Well, I'm in the military, and I only bring that up because I've been in training and been moving around the country alot for the past few years. It's been really hard to nail down a span of time where I knew we would be in the same place before and after the 1300 miles, and I thought it was recall anyway so what's the rush?
I called my new local dealer to schedule this (we're pretty settled at the moment, at least for the next year) and that's when I was surprised it was a warranty extension instead of a recall. The dealer obviously has no incentive to do anything for me, but what can I do to contact Toyota directly? Will they be more helpful? I tried to call but they're out today because of the holiday.
Thanks for any advice. I'm pretty sure our 2007 Rav4 will pass their criteria, it needs a lot of oil pretty regularly.
If your Rav4 still qualifies then take it back and have the test performed again. There's not much else to do. Toyota has been very unhelpful once the deadline passes.I brought my 06 RAV into the dealership and it "passed" the recall test. But now the oil consumption is worse. What can I do? I LOVED Toyota, but their unwillingness to work with me has turned me off. I am heartbroken at how they have treated me a loyal customer. It's a disgrace. What can I DO???
