WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (ZTV): WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR COMBINATION METER ON CERTAIN 2004-2009 MY PRIUS VEHICLES

Background

"Toyota has received a limited number of reports from high mileage 2004 to certain 2009 model year Prius vehicles regarding the Instrument Panel Combination Meter not illuminating when the vehicle's ignition is turned "ON". This condition may occur in certain cold weather conditions and is identified during vehicle start-up."

The warranty enhancement covers this failure for a period of the longer of 9 years from date of first use (DOFU) (no mileage limit) or before September 30, 2013 (which ever is longer for the condition described).

If a customer has previously paid for the repair or replacement of the Sun Visor Assembly and/or Sun Visor Bracket to address the condition described above, please have them mail a copy of the repair order, proof-of-payment, and proof-ofownership to the following address for reimbursement consideration:

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
Customer Experience Center, WC10
19001 South Western Avenue

I am a little confused on if this warranty extension is valid for my 2004 Toyota prius. Is it valid or has it expired? Is there a current one? I need my combination meter replaced. Thank you.

Hoping that toyota has released a solution to the dangerous and non-consumer related problem related to the failing Combination Meter, can anyone confirm if there is a new Extended Warranty or possible recal on this? The previous ext. Warranty was only good for 9 years from date of first use which did not help many drivers. Super negligent and ripe situation for class action lawsuits not to mention many potentially fatal accidents on the roads. :(

I'm guessing most of the problems are just after the 9 years, calculated to guarantee fixing the problem to as few people as possible. It's about $800 to replace, why would they want to do it for free when the can put a stop date. Mine went out at 40,000 miles even though I've had it 10 years.

What's sad is Toyota used to rank at the top of best customer service.

I am currently having this issue and o had complained to Toyota once befor when I had my Ans system replaced I was told they could not find a problem because they could not recreate because mine would randomly go out and that I needed a new 12v bought a new 12 v and a few days later it went out this was like a year later so took it Toyota was told a different price to find out it was 797 to replaced was told 464 would be the price first so they discounted a little because of their mistake so I said ok well it needs to be done so said go ahead with it they told me a week I am now a month in they still have no idea when my part will be there they say the cannot reach the vendor to confirm the eta and this I my families only car ok so I've rented a car for a month which has been about 1100 bucks and now I can no longer afford to do so so I ask can I take my car until the part comes they tell me it is a safety issues and legal issue because if the mileage not being counted which amazes me it wasn't to much of a safety issue to recall it so I ask about possible getting a loaner car since this is not my mistake I was told a week which is now a month he told me he has to see if that is available I have had the worst experience with this considering I could take mine out send it into a repair vendor and they would have it back to me in a week but the actual dealership of my car cannot even give me a date now my car will be done I have already waited a month with no information on wither I will have to wait another or three till the part comes so messed up ans mt warranty just ended four months before this

've rented a car for a month which has been about 1100 bucks and now I can no longer afford to do so so I ask can I take my car until the part comes
Please contact Toyota Directly and let them know what is going on. They should've supplied you with a rental car since the cluster went on backorder.

Read here...

Q6a: Why does the replacement of the combination meter take approximately 3 days?
Q6a: The dealer will need to order a new combination meter from the supplier with the current mileage pre-programmed. To ensure the combination meter and vehicle mileage are the same the vehicle cannot be driven while the dealership is waiting for the new combination meter. Toyota will provide a rental while the vehicle is being repaired.

You have spent $1,000 that you didn't need too...

You could have had the instrument cluster as it is called replaced from a local Toyota mechanic for around $ 200. The dealership charges around $800.

Yes but if it's still under the warranty extension then it's free. The dealer should have provided them with a rental car at no cost.

Our car is 9 years and THREE MONTHS old and has just developed this problem. We currently have the rental car covered by the "warranty", but we are being told it will cost the $850. Are we under this warranty or not?

Did you take your Prius into the dealer for this repair before it was past the 9 year mark?

Hi,
My 2009 Prius has the same combination meter problems, but I experienced it in a very cold weather when car stays at the parking lot at least for a few hours. Toyota dealership says that they need a proof. I could videotape it next winter, but they said that they need to actually see it and extended warranty expires in 2018 (2009 +9).
Any advise how to proof it and if such a proof really required?

Yes, proof is actually required, otherwise it is considered fraud on the Dealer who performs the repair. It sounds like you have this one last winter season but my recommendation to you is, that when ever it does act up, stop right then and drive directly to a Toyota Dealer. Do not turn the car off. Kindly have a Service Adviser/Technician come out and verify the concern and write a repair order for this condition. They should also put you into a rental vehicle at not cost to you.

** You can also leave it there overnight and have them try it the next morning only with you there. Understand that your aren't trying to be a pain, rather just wanting to duplicate the concern for them so you can get this fixed.

how can I find out if my 2008 is covered?

the dash goes out about once a week and I have to disconnect the negative battery cable for a few seconds to get it working again...
very dangerous not knowing your speed or how much gas is left.

I too experience problem with my 2009 Prius that I bought in 2014. Toyota says I have till March with warranty but won't replace unless they duplicate. My contention if its a mild winter they can't duplicate and it could have display come back on driving there. Calling a tow truck to take it there because technically you should not drive the car in this condition the car has to be turned off so you can't prove it. I could get a speeding ticket, are they going to pay for it? This could cause chaos for police, people speeding because they can't see speedometer, it could kill someone. I could run out of gas because I can't see display and get killed by someone pretending to help. Are they going to be able to bring me back to life? What about my family, will they pay them for my murder or just the cost of the meter which Toyota dealer told me it costs $2000.00. Why is mine so expensive? My car could get stolen because it won't shut off, are they going to pay my insurance and pay me to get a new car? So why doesn't Toyota, who needs to duplicate it, which is beyond me because people have no reason to lie about it, just take all the cars and either do a recall because refusing to fix them is evil and not of God and because they need proof because we are all accused of being liars which is what the devil does, recreate these conditions themselves. They can use a meat locker, that will fit a car and have it get as cold as they want. What happened to the customer is always right? This is very bad customer service, very bad management and poor government policy and business practice to allow this to continue and have people pay for something that is not their fault. Toyota if I were you I would fix it because you are losing customers by doing this. Not a good way to keep your business going. Plus you could end up paying out more money in the long run with law suits.

well, I found my car was covered but I missed the cut off date by 9 weeks..
I told them the dash had been intermittent for months and there was a error code stored in the car but since I didn't have it diagnosed by the dealer at a cost of over $100 when it first happened I was out of luck.. Im going to order a refurbished one for $120 and have it installed..
I understand they have to cut the program off at some point but this has been annoying..

to get you dash working again temporarily turn the car off
open the drivers door and leave it open..
got to the back where the 12 volt battery is
on the positive side (red wire) you will see two white plugs (one has 3 or 4 wires there has one wire)
unplug them for about a 45 seconds..(clips release is on the bottom)
when you plug them back in you should see the red door ajar light on the dash... if you do the dash will work when you start the car, if not you will have to try to unplug the wires again..
you might have to reset your clock and radio station on start up..

you can also download a GPS app that you can use as a speedometer .. I now fill up once a week so I don't run out.

btw this isn't cold related, I live in Florida where its always over 75 degrees, just the electronics wearing out.
