Some 2012 – 2016 model year North American produced (NAP) Camry and Camry HV vehicles and 2013 – 2015 Avalon and Avalon HV vehicles may exhibit a knocking, popping, ticking, or snapping noise from the moon roof area while driving. The repair procedure included in TSB 0151-13 has been developed to address this condition.

Here are a few examples of customers experiencing this noise.....

Cracking noise is heard while driving at first between 6 and 20 seconds, stopped at the light and continue driving and again heard between 1:34 and 1:50.

My roof rattles in my new camry when temperatures reach 54 degrees or lower. I wedged my phone between the sun visor and the ceiling of the car to capture the rattling noise.

My 2016 camry has a popping or banging noise from the sun roof area....I bought the Camry June 2016....I did not notice the banging sound until after my 5000 mile service in December 2016....But after that time the temperature outside dropped below 50 degrees f. Today last week of April 2017 I took Camry to dealer for 10000 mile oil change......I told them about the banging sound and the service guy took me for a drive to find the problem and it did not make the sound...We both drive the car.....
WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW? THE SERVICE PERSON SAID HE COULD NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNLESS HE CAN HEAR THE SOUND.......The last blogger said he can only hear the sound when the temperature drops below 54 f......

I have a 2012 Camry. I recently received a notice from Toyota saying that there may be a defect with the sunroof switch. They gave me an extended warranty which will cover going into my dealer, and having the problem repaired for free.

Was there a question about this you needed answered?

I have a 2011 Camry with 58,000 miles that started making the roof noise a year ago. Noise is heard on ruff surfaces, right hand turns, and uneven surfaces. Way to late for warranty. They should call them what they are, lemons!!

I have a 2017 Camry that is making a popping noise in the roof. Will Toyota add the 2017 year to this service bulleting?

we just took my husband’s 2016 Camry to the dealer for the popping sound in the moonroof and and they said it was a well known problem with a welding issue in the moon roof itself when they’re putting the roofs in.

They supposedly have it fixed now and we’re going back to pick it up.

I don't know but if enough Camry's are having the same issue then Toyota may issue a revised TSB to include the 2017. As for the Dealer Techs, they already know this is an issue and would just perform the repair included in that TSB for the 2017 as they normally would for the 2016.

Just took my 2017 Camry in for 10,000 and same noise. They were able to replicate and will need to keep for a day to check out. Noise is not uncommon and related to the sunroof. Covered under warranty. Interesting!

I took my 2016 Camry for the sunroof noise, they had to order the parts and then I had to leave it overnight.
It was under warranty so I was given a rental vehicle, the guys at the dealer didn't know about this sunroof noise.

I took my car (2011 Camry) in a couple of years ago for this, I have an extended warranty, was told this was not covered, the cost to repair was going to be over $300, I told them I could turn my radio up high enough to drown out the popping. Yesterday my sun visor quit staying in position, I'm sure I will be told the same thing. I plan to argue with them on both instances. Only have 62,000 on it. Any advice?

Your visor falling down should be covered under the extended warranty....

I have a 2015 Toyota Camry hybrid and I hear that loud “pop” sound in the sunroof area. Happens while driving up or over a bump or dip or driveway. It happens several times a week, at least every other day. It always scares my passengers. I have taken car in to service and rode with a technician to identify issue. It would recreate the sound. He mentioned he knew there was history of sound in sunroof and required a “t” bar support but couldn’t fix it until he verified it. I have tried capturing the sound in my phone but can’t seem to. Very frustrating and makes me lean toward not buying a Toyota next time. This is my 2nd one and was pleased until this issue. Just thought so would vent since the service department can’t help me.

Is your Camry still under the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty period?

I have a 2017 that has the popping noise in the moon roof when I go over bumps and dips. I hear it every time I drive the car. Took it to the dealer I purchased it from, they could not reproduce the sound and did nothing. Saw the reference to the service bulletin. I hope this gets extended to the 2017 model as well. I have contacted the dealer closest to me via e-mail and sent them the service bulletin reference asking if they will fix this car under that bulletin. Sure hope they do. It is really annoying and loud. Is there any update if the Service bulletin will be extended to the 2017 model. It is obviously not fixed with the model year.
