I have a 2005, and live in Chicago area. Is there an option between frame replacement and buy back? Is buy back always $15,000? If there is a buy back, do you keep vehicle or is it scrapped?
The warranty extension would be for frame replacement and not a buy back. The $15,000 number is what most vehicles that need this will cost to repair. Not that the vehicle Owner will get that amount.

Hello all, I have an 02 sequoia with a rotted frame as well! Is there a class action suit for the older sequoia's yet? I'm very disappointed with Toyota on this situation.

I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. Today it was diagnosed with a severe rust problem. So severe that I can no longer drive it. I had it towed in, and the mechanic stated that it was not driveable and the wheel was about to fall off, because it was so rusted. He took pictures and it is a deplorable site, to know that I could have been hurt , maimed (r worse) in this car if I had continued to drive it. I will reach out to Toyota, since I was told that this was a common problem on the sequoia. The car runs fine, but it is unsafe to drive any further. Has anyone found a solution with Toyota. Recalls or class action. Need Help with this problem.

Is there money for frame replacement. My 2003 Sequoia, is severely rusted, the car has been rendered not driveable.

All.....my small claims court date is tomorrow. Is there anybody else who would like to say that they did not receive the notices from Toyota about the LSC on their 2001-2004 Sequoia? Thanks. Will Hager

It may be to late, but I have a 2002 Sequoia and just saw the entire underside is rusted. I do not recall receiving any notice about this situation. Would love to know if there is anything I can do. Obviously, I can't take it in or it may be deemed not driveable. This is my only vehicle.

Can we begin a lawsuit for Sequoias the are older than 2005? My 04 has 104,500 miles on it - tie rod mount rusted off the frame. Msuttonrc@yahoo.com
YES... also interested in a lawsuit against Toyota. How do we proceed?
I Own a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. Frame completely rusted out and my tie rod also came off frame from rust. A whole chunk of frame came right off. My mechanic says I was lucky I did not lose control of vehicle. Called Toyota. They gave me a case number and the following day promptly denied any responsibility. I inquired about the current settlement for 2005-2008 which Toyota is taking responsibility and at first there was denial that the case even existed, then told could not discuss as not supposed to be public. Really? It's all over the internet (ie NY Times, Nov 13, 2016 "Toyota Agrees to $3.4 Billion Settlement in Corrosion Case"). They are a corporation, and corporations do not like bad publicity. If enough people make noise ESPECIALLY on social media they will react. Frames are around 4k and another 4-5 to install. So, if your book value is 10k or less your vehicle is worthless. If you spend 30K - 40k on a vehicle there is no way someone is NOT responsible for the vehicle all of a sudden having no value. Either the owner or Toyota have to be responsible for the total loss in value because of frame. The owners are not negligent here so Toyota has to be. The fact that they are taking responsibility for the 2005-2008 and not before is despicable. I'm going on every possible website, blog, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to try to bring light to this injustice. I encourage everyone to do the same. I'm in on any group lawsuit and can help coordinate if enough interest. Else, I will go after them on my own.

I also have a 2003 Sequoia with severe rust. If there is a class action lawsuit I would love to be included.

I would be interested in the class action also.... 01, bought in 2006-- no notification of limited action or anything and concerned with the shape of the fame... I thought the vehicle had been driven in the ocean somewhere but it was a lease vehicle purchased in Kansas....

I have a 2001 Sequoia I have tracked down the Car Fax and history of this vehicle. The frame on my vehicle has never been addressed. Is there any resolution.

Okay Folks....I am going to do it. Take Toyota to small claims court for not notifying me of the LSC for my 2001 Sequoia. I have tried to resolve this issue with Toyota via their customer service staff by submitting several cases over the past 12 months. After being told the 7/31/2014 deadline had passed, and there was nothing more they were willing to do, I have few other options. To rub salt into the wound, while at my local Toyota dealership for parts (for another Toyota - I have owned 12) I was discussing my experiences with a dealership Service Center employee. He did not understand why I was told that Toyota would not do anything. He said they currently had two (2) frames in the dealership to repair two vehicles under the campaign. That was 20+ months AFTER the campaign officially ended. When I asked why they could not help me, he simply said "I must not have gone far enough up the food chain" to get action. That was the push I needed to try to resolve this via legal action. I filed my small claim case that same day.

Now that I have a court date scheduled, I would like to have one or two names of other owners who also did not get a notice of the LSC. I see Miriam Reilly added her complete name above. Would any others be willing to do the same? I promise it will only be used to add credibility to my claim, that others have experienced the same. Even some that purchased the vehicles new (which I did not). BTW....I also had a 2001 Tacoma and DID receive the notices for that vehicle....just not the Sequoia.

It seems Toyota will admit that there are problems with the frame, but believes I have no case because they have some evidence that they "mailed" the notice letters and a statute of limitations is in place. They don't seem to care if "we" ever received the letters, just that they mailed them. Sounds a lot like the "check is in the mail" to me.

Wish me luck. We all may benefit if I win. Any names that could help the cause will be appreciated.

Thanks
Will Hager

Hi Will. I just wanted to see how the court date went? I know this was a1most a year ago, but I am just reading all of this now. I purchased a used 2004 Toyota Sequoia with 90,000 miles on it in May. It didn't pass inspection because of the rusted frame. The used car dealership where I bought it won't take it back. So now I am stuck making payments on a car that looks pretty sitting in my driveway, but can't be driven. I called Toyota and of course got no where--just like everyone else in this thread who called. I recently filed a complaint with National Highway Safety Administration. I am hopeful you were able to get Toyota to help you. I would love any advice you have for me. Thanks!

Hi. I am wondering if there was a suit? I would like to be part of one. In May I purchased a 2003 Sequoia. It didn't pass inspection because of the rusted frame. The used car dealership where I purchase it will not work with me. I've called Toyota and they will not work with me either. Yesterday I filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety Administration. I am looking for anything else I can do to make my car driveable (that doesn't require me shelling out $15,000 to replace the frame myself). Please let me know if there is a suit I can be a part of or if you have had any luck with Toyota. Thank you!

I found that Toyota settled a class action suit but for Sequoias from the year 2005 to 2008 (https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit...-rust-prone-truck-frame-class-action-lawsuit/). Clearly the problem with these rusted frames affects their cars/trucks with older models. Mine is a 2003. It won't pass inspection and is deemed unsafe to drive. It's heartbreaking because I just bought it with only has 98,000 miles on it--my brother-in-law has one with 320,000! I bought it because I thought they had a reputation for being tough and lasting a long time. I was able to drive it for 4 days--the time between when I purchased it and when it got inspected.

I did some research and found my car did get the corrosion resistance treatment in 2012. That treatment did absolutely nothing. I contacted Toyota and asked them to reconsider my car for the frame replacement. They told me that the limited service campaign expired in 2015. The frame on this car needs to be replaced. Toyota wouldn’t tell me why some of the Toyota Sequoias received the frame replacement and why others didn’t, but my car (and probably many others) aren’t drivable and aren't safe with the current frames. Toyota needs to be thorough and safe and recall the rest of these cars with defective frames

I am interested if anyone has a suit against Toyota for the older models. If there isn't a current suit, if I started one, would anyone be interested in joining me?

Hi. I am not sure if you read my thread (right above yours), but I have been back and forth with Toyota. They won't do anything. The limited service campaign has expired and only applied to a select few. Even with the corrosion resistant treatment, my frame is still totally rusted out. They just said there was nothing they could do. I filed a complaint with the National Highway Safety Administration. If they get enough complaints, they can have an investigation and recommend a recall. I guess my car will just stay parked in the driveway while I wait and see if that happens. I'd love to be part of a class action suit if others would like to be involved as well. Otherwise, I think all of us are stuck with cars that are unsafe to drive.

I urge all of you to please contact the National Highway Safety Administration. You can file a complaint online or call them at 1-888-327-4236. I filed a complaint online and also just got off the phone with them. If there are enough complaints that show this is a safety issue, they will investigate and force a recall.

Today I called Toyota's customer service and the rep was very helpful. I will be contacted by a special inquiry team by Friday or Monday the latest. I will update as soon as I get an answer.
